Catch The Reading Bug

CATCH THE READING BUG - 2008 SUMMER READING PROGRAM - Sign up at your nearest branch or on the bookmobile to read this summer. Count the minutes you read and get awards for reaching the reading goal. Along with our theme, we have the following special events planned:

BUG BASH KICKOFF- Sat., June 7th - Eldridge Branch - Buzz into our Summer Reading Program Kick-off Extravaganza! Open from 10am - 2pm, this event will include Bug Bingo, a Bug Booth, Bug Tattoos, a Caricature Artist and more. Bee sure to visit at 10am, when we host James from Project Insect with some smelly insects or just drop in for the activities during the rest of the day!

GLUE & GO COSTUMES WITH HOLLY CLEELAND - Thurs., June 12th - 1pm - Eldridge Branch - What do you get with a glue gun & a swarm of household items? An afternoon of fun and unbelievable costumes! Holly Cleeland’s costume making skills have been featured on shows including The View, Carol Duvall & Rachel Ray. She promises 3 lucky participants will go home with a ready-made costume.

STRANGER THAN FICTION - Meet the weirdest and strangest looking bugs around when James from Project Insect visits our branches. Wed., June 11th - 10am - Blue Grass Branch, Wed., June 11th - 3pm - Walcott Branch, Thurs., June 26th - 3pm - Buffalo Branch.

BUGGY MOVIES - Tues., June 17th, Mon., July 14th & Tues., July 29th - 1pm - Eldridge Branch - Bring the whole family and get out of the heat when you enjoy some special showings of popular bug-related movies. You are welcome to bring snacks; we’ll provide the popcorn. Call the Library at 563-285-4794 for movie titles.   

DAN WARDELL SHOW - Wed., June 18th - 2 - 4pm - Durant Branch - Expect fun and laughs when IPTV’s Dan Wardell brings his Library Road Trip Show to Durant.

MAGIC WITH RICK EUGENE - Expect to “Bee” dazzled and amazed with this magic show for the whole family. Rick has performed for thousands and will delight the audience with his trade. Fri., June 27th - 3pm  - Princeton Branch, Sat., June 28th - 1pm - Eldridge Branch.

MAKE-IT-TAKE-IT FAIR - Tues., July 1st - 1 - 3pm - Eldridge Branch - Youth ages 3 - 18 are invited to flutter in to create some fun summer crafts. This drop in session will provide a wide variety of crafts for participants surrounding our Reading Program Theme.

MS. SPIDER'S TEA PARTY WITH BABS -  Fri., July 11th, - 10am - Eldridge Branch - Join us for tea as Storyteller, Babs Treiber spins a tale at our special tea party for all ages. Please R.S.V.P. by July 9th by calling Eldridge at 563-285-4794 option 4.

BUILD-A-BUG - Here’s your chance to create your own favorite bug or use your imagination to build a new kind. We’ll gather ideas about parts of bugs and then use some unique items to create our own.  Reservations are appreciated and can be made by calling Eldridge at      563-285-4794 option 4, or the specific branch.  Mon., July 7th - 2:30-3:30pm - Durant Branch, Tues., July 15th - 2:30 - 3:30pm - Buffalo Branch,  Thurs., July 17th - 4 - 5pm - Blue Grass Branch, Fri., July 18th - 2:30 - 3:30pm - Princeton Branch, Tues., July 22nd - 1:30 - 2:30pm - Walcott Branch,  & Wed., July 23rd - 2 - 3pm - Eldridge Branch.

Play Yu-Gi-Oh

Yu-Gi-Oh Saturdays

We've reserved tables in our Young Adult area for students in 4th - 12th grades on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring your Yu-Gi-Oh cards and friends to play, trade or talk about the game and cards with other students in the area. Video Games at the Library

Game Day for 4th - 6th graders

Play your favorite video games on a big screen. There are many PS2 and X-Box games to choose from, with a wide variety in type. Bring just yourself or some friends but one thing is for sure, you're going to have a great time! This will take place for 4th - 6th graders from 3:15 pm to 5 pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. No registration is required.

Family Story Time

Family Story Times
1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month - 6:30p.m.
The whole family is invited on the first and third Wednesday of each month for a half-hour of stories, songs, and fun at the Scott County – Eldridge Library. Family Story Time will start at 6:30 p.m., no registration is required, and the event is free.
