Scott County Library Battle of the Books

North Scott District ICCA

Battle of the Books

Congratulations to Virgil Grissom Elementary for winning the 2015-2016 North Scott District Battle and advancing to the Eastern Iowa Regional Battle of the Books!

What is the Battle of the Books?

The Battle of the Books is an organized competition where teams compete using their knowledge of a prescribed set of books. The battle creates excitement over books, rewards a love of reading in a non-physical sport, and has become a rite of passage for many students.

What books do participants read?

Participants will read the Iowa Children’s Choice Award books for the current year. Copies of each book are available for checkout at all branches of the Scott County Library System. Books for the 2016-2017 Battle of the Books are now available as print, audio, and e-books. Check out the slideshow above or view the 2016-2017 list here.

Who can participate?

Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades may participate. Teams are made up of three students, with the option for a fourth alternate. The North Scott School District schools hold a school-level Battle of the Books to select a winning team to send to the District Battle. The winning team from the District Battle moves on to the Eastern Iowa Regional Battle of the Books to compete against teams from Pleasant Valley, Davenport, Bettendorf, and more.

When is the Battle of the Books?

The North Scott District Battle takes place in the spring at the Eldridge branch of the Scott County Library System. The Regional Battle is usually held in April at the Bettendorf Public Library. Check back in fall 2016 for the 2016-2017 Battle dates.
